Borrowing from rooftop mc’s, there’s an advantage to sitting on a rooftop. Invariably, there’s also a disadvantage. The advantage lies in the “position” one finds themselves. The disadvantages-which could be opportunities-abound in the things the “position” leads you to see.
There is a silent revolution going on in the world and the cultures that inform its existence, that if we are not careful, we’d only be hearers of it and not partakers.
Then again, that’s our story in Nigeria isn’t it? I have always wondered how Nigerians can be among the most celebrated elites in the world, yet the polity that guides the country is as archaic as it can be. Some have argued that colonials thwarted the course of the people in Nigeria, while i agree to an extent, i also submit-at the risk of sounding weird- that this excuse has become a crutch that will rest on to excuse or disability.
I wish i could give myself the appellate of a social commentator, but as of this time, i cannot. The reason is simple, up until this time i have divorced myself from the happenings in and around the country, fighting with myself and being critical about everything/one by anyone who dares to speak.
On the flip side, the criticism my generation has received for not caring enough to want a better Nigeria as so irked me i just shut up, after all i do not want to be rude to my elders, but what happens then, when the elder is neurotic? (Big word eh?) Transliterate it to Yoruba for those who understand the language or look for the equivalent in your language.
So back to the cultures that inform the existence of the world, I cannot commentate on all; if I could, i will be second to the Socrates and Einsteins’ of this world.
So you and i will have to work together and share on how we can “educate” ourselves and prepare to take the reins of this country the best way we can intellectually. After all, that was how our independence was “negotiated”.
My major concern is the media and how we can engage it to drive this “revolution”. So pardon me if/when it focuses in that. The beauty though is you can respond to whatever i post, in relation to the area of concern/influence you believe you belong to.
My first posts (after this) would be some i have written before, and we’d take it from there.
One thing i ask though; let us be largely objective and brutally honest. First with yourself and then your letters, because i believe they are an extension of you.
Knowledge puffs up; love covers all; love yourself; love your neighbour; love this country above all. Love God He is the essence of your being.
