In the last four months many a things have happened in my life and in my country’s existence. Focussing on Nigeria, a lot of arguments have erupted: should the country split? Should the country get back to true federalism via government of region? Terrorism? Slow response from government, should the present leader have been elected, PDP,AC… Was the election truly free and fair? Flash flood in lagos, and the list goes on.
In the midst of all these Nigerian have learnt to cover their pains, anger&disgust in comedy. There were jokes flying everywhere about terrorism in naija, joke composed&dictionary entries with peoples names created. Then at the bombing of the police headquarters jokes about the policemen receiving “N20” to allow the terrorist. That really got me. I know that we lack value for human life-sometimes even our own,cos if we did we will drive better or use helmet on an okada. I’ll put one question out how many of us hustlers can truly live on what the average policeman lives on? They are treated with so much disdain by the government and the people, but let’s take a quick walk to the police college in ikeja……
The second avalanche of jokes that really disturbed me was those that emerged after the Lagos flash floods! That was the height for me!
But then I began to question why would Nigerians hide behind jokes to get their innermost thoughts out? Because we don’t have listening government may top the list but then do we really care about each other?
Love yourself;love your neighbour;love this country;above all these Love God;He is the essence of your being.
Ps: apologies for the long silence. Lots of good things have happened!
