A Global Village?

So maybe the world is not so much of a global village after all, since the prejudices and all still exists?

Anyways was watching the news today and there were four reasons why aid was not pouring to Pakistan as it did other countries visited by Mother Nature. It ranged from donor apathy to Pakistan, to corrupt leaders, to death toll not high enough, to the fear of extremists.

I have my own thoughts on why the aids are not pouring in, but I’d hold off on that for a bit.

My major concern as i watched the news, was will Nigeria get international aid relieve should a natural disaster happen in the magnitude of a earthquake or floods as the north is prone to?

Pakistan is being globally ostracised for being an Islamic country (personal opinion), my country, is ridded, with corruption, and globally known for frauds.

Most recently, i read that the Nigerian Red Cross was factional!!!! Arrrgh!!!! In addition, one faction was accusing the other of being fraudulent, and wants to raise funds for Haiti victims’ blablabla. If the Red Cross can be factional, in Nigeria, what will be off limits for these people i have no idea.

I left the shores of this country for the first time in January of ’08, and i had always taught the image of Nigerians abroad was over blown, until, i got to the airport in this foreign country. My partner had a ‘red’ passport and i had a ‘green’ passport. He sailed through immigration, while i had to take pictures to get me through immigration. I saw red, but what could i do?

So, as i watch the Pakistan disaster, i am on one hand thankful we may not experience such devastation anytime soon. Maybe that is a blessing. However as i write this i remember a Nostradamus’ prophecy that the whole of west Africa will be washed off by the Atlantic, i wonder then what we would do?

Where do we begin the laundering? Who is going to help who?
