“A o ni r’bi nile yii, o d’okere” this Yoruba saying should be our mantra as Nigerians because I can’t imagine the fate of Nigerians should disaster strike. The case of Pakistan is just like other emerging countries, Nigeria inclusive. How could one explain the globetrotting of the Pakistan president at such time when his people needed him most all in the name of looking for money. Which money? Why should all emerging countries look up to another for help in time of crisis when it has failed to prepare adequately for such crisis? I mean who did America call on during 9/11? “eleru nii gbe n’ibi to ti wuwo”. Until each country (and individual) see the need for proactiveness in the issue of life and crisis management, there will always be a repeat of the Pakistani situation. Come to think of it, when was the last time you went through all the possible crisis situation that could arise in your workplace and the step to be taken to address them?
We (Nigerians)have been a set of people much loved by God. We were this close to the present Pakistani situation when the beach in Lagos overflew its boundary and there was even flood at a time in some part of ogun state(if I could remember well). We have FERMA all right but of what importance is the body to victims of disaster in Nigeria? Even the FG had failed to adequately relocate the Bakassi people, so what else?
If God really allows a major disaster to hit us, then…God help us!ayotunde ogundare
